Daily Reading
Preface - God in a secondvision maketh a covenant with Solomon. Hiram disliketh the cities given him by Solomon, but maketh him a present in gold. Solomon buildeth various cities. The Canaanites which remained are subjected to a tribute of bondservice, but the Israelites are reserved for more honourable offices. Pharaoh's daughter removeth to her house. Solomon's yearly solemn sacrifices. His navy, which fetcheth gold from Ophir.
1 Kings 9
Preface - The relative duties of children, and parents; of servants, and masters. Paul exhorteth the brethren to resist spiritual enemies by putting on the whole armour of God, and by perseverance in prayer, which he requireth for all saints, and particularly for himself, that he might preach the gospel with due boldness. He commendeth Tychicus, and concludeth with good wishes to all sincere Christians.
Ephesians 6

Daily Light - Morning

The Lord God omnipotent reigneth.

I know that thou canst do every thing.-The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.-He doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?- There is none that can deliver out of my hand: I will work, and who shall let it?-Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee.

Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord. Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be int unto you.-Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean.-The mighty God.-All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.-Be strong and courageious, be not afraied nor dismayed... there be more with us than with him
Rev. 19.6; Job 42.2; Lu. 18.27; Dan. 4.35; Isa. 43.13; Mk. 14.36
Mt.9.28-29; Mt. 8.2-3; Isa. 9.6; Mt. 28.18

Daily Light - Evening

What is the thing that the Lord hath said unto thee?

He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?-To keep his commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good.

As many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith... Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made.

God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last day spoken unto us by his Son.

Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth.
1 Sa. 3.17; Mi. 6.8; Deu. 10.13
Ga. 3.10-11,19
He. 1.1-2
1 Sa. 3.9

A Puritans Catechism
Q16 - Into what estate did the fall bring mankind

A - The fall brought mankind into a state of sin and misery.

Care of new converts
He saith unto him, the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep. - John 21 v 17

Do not forget to carry on the work in hearts brought to a Saviour. I feel this was one of my faults in the ministry. Nourish babes; comfort downcast believers; counsel those perplexed; perfect that which is lacking in their faith. Prepare them for some trials. I fear most christians are quite unready for days of darkness.
