Daily Readings
Preface - Joab instructeth a woman of Tekoah, and sendeth her to the king. She entertaineth the king with a feigned tale, the intent of which is to obtain leave for Absalom's return. Joab is sent to fetch him, but he is not allowed to see the king. Absalom's beauty; his children. After two years he getteth admittance to the king by Joab's means.
2 Samuel 14
Preface - Paul exhorteth the Corinthians to purity of life, and to receive him, who had done nothing to forfeit their esteem: he repeateth the assurance of his love for them, and sheweth what comfort he had received in all his troubles from the report which Titus had brought of their good dispositions toward him: so that upon the whole he did not repent of having grieved them a little by letter, considering the good effects which that godly sorrow had produced. Above all he rejoiced to observe the good impressions which their behaviour, so answerable to his former boastings of them, had left in the mind of Titus.
2 Corinthians 7

A Puritans Catechism

Q80-What is the Lord's Supper?
A - The Lord's Supper is an ordinance of the New Testament, instituted by Jesus Christ; wherein, by giving and receiving bread and wine, according to his appointment, his death is shown forth, and the worthy receivers are, not after a corporal and carnal manner, but by faith, made partakers of his body and blood, with all his benefits, to their spiritual nourishment, and growth in grace.

Outlets of His glory
But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. - Isaiah 53 v 5.

The wounds of Christ were the greatest outlets of His glory that ever were. The divine glory shone more out of His wounds than out of all His life before. The veil was then rent in twain, and the full heart of God allowed to stream through. It was a human body that writhed, pale and recked, upon the accursed tree; they were human hands that were pierced so rudely by the nails; it was human flesh that bore that deadly gash upon the side; it was human blood that streamed from hands, and feet, and side; the eye that meekly turned to His Father was a human eye; the soul that yearned over His mother was a human soul. But oh, there was divine glory streaming through all! every wound was a mouth to speak of the grace and love of God!
