Daily Reading
Preface - Josiah causeth the book to be read in a solemn assembly. He reneweth the covenant between the Lord and the people. He destroyeth idolatry in Judah. He burneth men's bones upon the altar at Beth-el according to the prophecy, sparing the sepulchre of the prophet who had foretold these things. He pulleth down the idolatrous houses in the cities of Samaria, and slayeth the priests. He causeth a solemn passover to be kept. He putteth away witches and all abominations, and excelleth in piety all kings before and after him. God's determined wrath against Judah for Manasseh's provocations. Josiah's acts: he is slain in a battle with Pharaoh-nechoh; Jehouhaz succeedeth him. Jehoahaz after a wicked reign of three months is deposed and imprisoned by Pharoah-hechoh, who maketh Jehoiakim king, and carrieth Jehoahaz to Egypt. Jehoiakim taxeth the land for Pharaoh's tribute. His wicked reign.
2 Kings 23
Preface - Concerning the office of high priests taken from among men: wherewith Christ's priesthood is compared, and its privilleges set forth: a further account of which is deferred, and for what reason.
Hebrews 5

Daily Light - Morning
Fruitful in every good work,
and increasing in the knowledge of God.

I beseech you...brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. - As ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness. - In Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creasture. And as many was walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy.

Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. - I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
Col. 1.10; Ro. 12.1-2; Ro. 6.19; Ga. 6.15-16
Jn. 15.8; Jn. 15.16

Daily Light - Evening
I sought him, but I found him not.

Teturn unto the LORD thy God; for thou hast fallen by thine iniquity. Take with you words, and turn to the LORD: say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously.

Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God... But every man is tempted, when he is draw away of his own lust, and enticed... Do not err, my beloved brethren. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD. - It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD. - Shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?

Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation... My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.
Song 3.1; Hos. 14.1-2
Jas. 1.13,14,16-17
Ps. 27.14; Lam. 3.26; Lu. 18.7
Ps. 62.1,5

A Puritans Catechism
Q51 - How is the sabbath to be sanctified?

A - The sabbath  is to be sanctified by a holy resting all that day, even from such worldly employments and recreations as are lawful on other days; and spending the whole time in the public and private exercises of God's worship, except so much as is to be taken up in the works of necessity and mercy.

The 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith
Of The Holy Scriptures

Chapter 1 - Paragraph 10
The supreme judge, by which all controversies of faith and practice are to be determined, and all decrees of councils, opinions of ancient writers, doctrines of men, and private spirits, are to be examined, and in whose sentence we are to rest, can be no other but the Holy Scripture delivered by the Spirit, into which Scripture so delivered, our faith is finally resolved. 21

Robert Murray M'Cheyne - God Makes A Path - Daily Devotional Readings
The prunings of the Father
Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. - John 15 v 2

John experienced many wonderful dealings of God. He experienced many of the prunings of the Father. He was a fruitful branch, and the Father pruned him that he might bring forth more fruit. When he was very old, he was banished to Patmos, an island in the Aegean Sea, and, it is supposed, made a slave in the mines there. He was a companion in tribulation; but he had many sweet shinings of the Father's love to his soul. He had sweet revelations of Christ in the time of his affliction; and he was joyfully delivered out of all his troubles. He experienced peculiarly the fatherly dealings of God. And so may you do, believer. Look where John looked - believe as John believed - and, like him, you will find that you have a Father in heaven, who will care for you, who will correct you in measure, who will stay His rough wind in the day of His east wind, who will preserve you unto His heavenly kingdom.
