Daily Reading for Sunday 6th August 2023

Prayer
- God thanks to God for His character, perfect, unchangeable, the same yesterday today and forever.
- Give thanks to God that we can meet in the church and have fellowship with one another.
- Pray the Lord would grant the preaching of his word power and clarity, and there are ready ears to hear and believe it. (2 Thes. 3.1.)
- Pray we would be granted faithful ministry and good spiritual food from God's Word. (1 Peter 2.2)

Daily Readings
Preface - The children of Israel assemble at Mizpeh, before whom the Levite declareth his wrong. The resolution of the assembly to punish the Gibeathites. The Benjamites, being required to deliver up the offenders, instead of complying gather themselves together against the other tribes. By the direction of God Judah goeth up first against them; but the Israelites are repulsed with great loss. They renew the fight the second day, and are again defeated with a great slaughter. They seek to God with fasting and sacrifices, and are promised success. They make use of a stratagem, and destroy all the Banjamites, with all that belonged to them, except six hundred men, who flee to the rock Rimmon.
Judges 20
Preface - Paul is accused before Felix by Tertullus in the name of the Jews: he answereth in defence of his life and doctrine. The hearing is deferred. Paul preaching freely before the governor and his wife, Felix trembleth. Felix hopeth for a bribe to release Paul, but in vain; and going out of his office  leaveth him bound.

A - At the day of judgment the bodies of the wicked being raised out of their graves, shall be sentenced, together with their souls, to unspeakable torments with the devil and his angels for ever.

Confidence in God
Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. - Romans 8 v 37
The world often comes against us like armed men; but, if God be for us, who can be against us.' The people shall be like bread.' It is as easy to overcome all opposition when God is with us, as for a hungry man to eat bread. It was God that girded Cyrus, though he did not know whim. So he does still: worldly men are a rod in God's hand. God puts it this way or that way, to fulfil all His pleasure; and when He has done with it, He will break it in pieces, and cast it into the fire. 'So fear not them that kill the body, and after that, have no more that they can do.' Oh! if you would live by faith, you might live a happy life!
