Daily Readings
Preface - Saul the son of Kish is sent to seek his father's asses which were lost, and despairing to find them is counselled by his servant to apply to Samuel. He is directed by some young maidens where to meet with him. Samuel, having been told by God both of his coming and of his appointment to the kingdom, entertaineth him at a feast with great respect; and on the morrow, after a private conversation, bringeth him on his way.
1 Samuel 10
Preface - Under the gospel we are free from condemnation, walking after the Spirit. The evil of being carnally minded, and the good of being spiritually minded. Christian's have God's Spirit to guide and assist them; by which if they mortify the flesh, they shall live. For they that are led by the Spirit are sons of God, and heirs of glory; and even they who have the first-fruits of the Spirit do still long after it; the Spirit in the mean time aiding their infirmities in prayer. Nevertheless the final good of them that fear God is all along pursued, being foreordained of God and brought about according to the course of his providence. The ground and assurance of the Christian's hope.
Romans 8

A Puritans Catechism
Q51 - How is the sabbath to be sanctified?

A - The sabbath is to be sanctified by a holy resting all that day, even from such worldly employments and recreations as are lawful on other days; and spending the whole time in the public and private exercises of God's worship, except so much as is to be taken up in the works of necessity and mercy.

Robert Murray M'Cheyne - God Makes A Path - Daily Devotional Readings
O worship the King
Praise ye the Lord, Praise the Lord, O my soul. - Psalms 146 v 1

Believers should praise God for what He is in Himself. Those that have never seen the Lord cannot praise Him. Those that have not come to Christ, have never seen the King in His beauty. An unconverted man sees no liveliness in God. He sees a beauty in the bluey sky, in the glorious sun, in the green earth, in the spangling stars, in the lily of the field; but he sees no beauty in God. He hath not seen in Him, neither known Him; therefore there is no melody of praise in that heart.
When a sinner is brought to Christ, he is brought to the Father. Jesus gave himself for us, 'that he might bring us to God.' O! what a sight breads in upon the soul - the infinite, eternal, unchangeable God! I know that some of you have been brought to see this sight.
