Paul certifieth the Thessalonians of the good opinion which he had of their faith, love, and patience; of the righteous judgment of God in punishing their enemies, and recompensing their sufferings; and of his prayers that God would fulfil his graceious purpose in them. 2 Thessalonians 1 Daily Light - Morning Fear not; for I have redeemed thee. Fear not; for thou shalt not be ashamed: neither be thou confounded; for thou shalt not be put to shame: for thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy widowhood any more. For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel. - I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee. - With the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. Their Redeemer is strong; the LORD of hosts is his name: he shall throughly plead their cause. - My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. Isa. 43.1; Isa. 54.4-5; Isa. 44.22; 1 Pe. 1.19 Jer. 50.34; Jn. 10.29 Ga. 1.3-5 Daily Light - Evening I will mention the lovingkindnesses of the LORD, and the praises of the LORD, according to all that the LORD hath bestowed on us. He brought me up...out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. - The Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. - He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? - God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts. - Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved:) and hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. Isa. 63.7; Ps. 40.2; Ga. 2.20; Ro. 8.32; Ro. 5.8 2 Co. 1.22; Eph. 1.14 Eph. 2.4-6 The Puritans Catechism Q 33 - What is adoption? A - Adoption is an act of God's free grace, whereby we are received into the number, and have a right to all the privileges, of the sons of God. Of The Last Judgement Chapter 31 PARAGRAPH 2 The end of God's appointing this day, is for the manifestation of the glory of his mercy, in the eternal salvation of the elect; and of his justice, in the eternal damnation of the reprobate, who are wicked and disobedient;4 for then shall the righteous go into everlasting life, and receive that fulness of joy and glory with everlasting rewards, in the presence of the Lord; but the wicked, who do not know God, and do not obey the gospel of Jesus Christ, shall be cast aside into everlasting torments,5 and punished with everlasting destruction, from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power.6 4 Rom. 9:22–23 5 Matt. 25:21,34; 2 Tim. 4:8 6 Matt. 25:46; Mark 9:48; 2 Thess. 1:7–10 Robert Murray M'Cheyne - God Makes A Path - Daily Devotional Readings Something to hide Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. - Psalm 119 v 11 When Jesus makes holy, it is by writing the word in the heart: "Sanctify them through thy truth." When a mother nurses her child, she not only bears it in her arms, but holds it to her breast, and feeds it with the milk of her own breast; so does the Lord. He not only holds the soul, but feeds it with the milk of the Word. The words of the Bible are just the breathings of God's heart. He fills the heart with these, to make us like God. When you go much with a companion, and hear his words, you are gradually changed by them into his likeness; so when you go with Christ, and hear His words you are sanctified.
