Daily Reading Preface - (Nor preface) Proverbs 20 Preface - The apostle exhoreth to be heavenly minded, so mortify carnal lusts, and to put away all malice and ill dealing in respect of one another, as becometh Christians; he recommendeth brotherly kindness, charity, and other general duties. The relative duties of wives, and husbands: of children, and parents: and of servants toward their masters. Colossians 3 Daily Light - Morning If ye do return unto the LORD with all your hearts, then put away the strange gods and Ashtaroth from among you, and prepare your hearts unto the LORD, and serve him only. Litle children, keep yourselves from idols. - Come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing, and I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. - Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God. Serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts. Behold, thou desireth truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. - Man looket on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart. - Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. 1 Sa. 7.3; 1 Jn. 5.21; 2 Co. 6.17,18; Mt. 6.24 Ex. 34.14; 1 Chr. 28.9 Ps. 51.6;; 1 Sa. 16.7; 1 Jn. 3.21 Daily Light - Evening When the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth? He came unto his own, and his own received him not. - The Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith. Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. Of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the ttime is. - Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching. - Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ. Of The Lord's Supper Chapter 30 PARAGRAPH 3 The Lord Jesus hath, in this ordinance, appointed his ministers to pray, and bless the elements of bread and wine, and thereby to set them apart from a common to a holy use, and to take and break the bread; to take the cup, and, they communicating also themselves, to give both to the communicants.5 5 1 Cor. 11:23–26, etc. Robert Murray M'Cheyne - God Makes A Path - Daily Devoional Readings Our continuing city For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God - Hebrews 2 v 10 Christians, learn to long for the heavenly Jerusalem. Do not forget it. Here we are in a strange land; but not taken up with anything that is there. But younder is our continuing city, the heavenly Jerusalem, with its pearly gates, and sreets of shining gold. Let the chief of your desires be, to be with Chist, which is far better. When the world is at the brightest, when friends are at the kindest, when your sky is at the clearest, still lift up this sweet song: 'If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning. If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy.'
