Daily Prayer - Wednesday
Wednesday - Give thank to God for the Bible its inspiration and preservation for us to read it today. (2 Timothy 3.16, Proverbs 30.5.) - Give thanks to God that we have easy access to the Scripture in English, in our mother tongue. - Pray the Lord would bless us as we study the Bible through the ministry this coming year. That as we work through a book of the Bible the Lord would continue to help us to grasp God's truth. - Pray for the Lunchtime outreach service and those who attend; pray that more from the offices nearby and Christians who commute are able to join us. Saul, jealous of David's good success in a new war, again seeketh to slay him; he saveth himself by flight. Saul's messengers come to David's house to slay him; Michal favoureth his escape, and deceiveth her father by an image in the bed. David cometh to Samuel to Naioth; he is pursued; the spirit of prophecy cometh upon Saul's messengers, and upon Saul. 1 Samuel 19 Preface - After saluting the church at Corinth, and thanking God for his grace toward them, Paul exhorteth them to unity, and reproveth their dissensions. The plain doctrine of the gospel, however foolish in the eyes of the world, is the power and wisdom of God to the salvation of believers. God, to take away human boasting, hath not called the wise, the mighty, the noble; but the foolish, the weak, the despised among men. Christ is our wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption. 1 Corinthians 1 Daily Light - Morning Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. By the word of thy lips I have kept me from the paths of the destroyer. Hold up my goings in thy paths, that my footsteps slip not. - When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee. For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life. - Thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left. I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. - We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place. - Now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. - They need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever. Ps. 119.105; Ps. 17.4-5; Pro. 6.22-23; Isa. 30.21 Jn. 8.12; 2 Pe. 1.19; 1 Co. 13.12; Rev. 22.5 Daily Light - Evening What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise. This is not your rest....it is polluted, it shall destroy you. - Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. - If riches increase, set not your heart upon them. - Set your heart and your soul to seek the LORD your God; arise therefore. Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. - Take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. - Yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry. - Now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. - Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or a the cockcrowing, or in the morning: lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. A - Christ executes the office of a king, in subduing us to himself, in ruling and defending us, and in restraining and conquering all his and our enemies. The 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith Of God and the Holy Trinity Chapter 2 PARAGRAPH 2 God, having all life,17 glory,18 goodness,19 blessedness, in and of Himself, is alone in and unto Himself all-sufficient, not standing in need of any creature which He hath made, nor deriving any glory from them,20 but only manifesting His own glory in, by, unto, and upon them; He is the alone fountain of all being, of whom, through whom, and to whom are all things,21 and He hath most sovereign dominion over all creatures, to do by them, for them, or upon them, whatsoever Himself pleases;22 in His sight all things are open and manifest,23 His knowledge is infinite, infallible, and independent upon the creature, so as nothing is to Him contingent or uncertain;24 He is most holy in all His counsels, in all His works,25 and in all His commands; to Him is due from angels and men, whatsoever worship,26 service, or obedience, as creatures they owe unto the Creator, and whatever He is further pleased to require of them. 17 John 5:26 18 Ps. 148:13 19 Ps. 119:68 20 Job 22:2–3 21 Rom. 11:34-36 22 Dan. 4:25,34–35 23 Heb. 4:13 24 Ezek. 11:5; Acts 15:18 25 Ps. 145:17 26 Rev. 5:12-14 Robert Murray M'Cheyne - God Makes A Path - Daily Devotional Readings A vessel unto honour If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work. 2 Timothy 2 v 21 I often pray, Lord, make me as holy as a pardoned sinner can be made.
