Daily Reading Plan - First Year
Preface - The battle at Gilboa; wherein Saul's army being defeated, and his sons slain, he and his armourbearer kill themselves. The Philistines take possession of the towns deserted by the Israelites. They insult over the dead bodies of Saul and his sons. The men of Jabesh-gilead recover the bodies by night, burn them, and bury their bones at Jabesh.
1 Samuel 31
Preface - Paul teacheth that none can own Christ but the Holy Ghost; woe gifts are diverse, and dealt out to different persons to profit withal. As many members make up one natural body, Christians in general form one mystical body: and as every member is equally a part of the natural body, and hath a necessary function allotted it; so is it with Christ's body, the church; to the individual members of which God hath assigned different gifts and offices for the general good.
1 Corinthians 12

Daily Light - Morning
Let us lift up our heart with our hands
unto God in the heavens.

Who is like unto the LORD our God, who dwelleth on high, who humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth! - Unto thee, O LORD, do I lift up my soul. - I stretch forth my hands unto thee: my soul thirsteth after thee, as a thirsty land....hide not thy face from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit. Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.

Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee. Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name. - Rejoice the soul of thy servant: for unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.

Whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do.
Lam. 3.41; Ps. 113.5-6; Ps. 25.1; Ps. 143.6-8
Ps. 63.3-4; Ps. 86.4-5
Jn. 14.13

Daily Light - Evening
Watchman, what of the night?

It is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

Learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: so likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors... Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope. My soul waiteth for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning: I say, more than they that watch for the morning.

He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.

Isa. 21.11; Ro. 13.11-12
Mt. 24.32-33,35
Ps. 130.5-6
Rev. 22.20

A Puritans Catechism

Q 28 - How are we made partakers of the redemption purchased by Christ?
A. - We are made partakers of the redemption purchased by Christ, by the effectual application of it to us by his Holy Spirit.

Baptist Confession of Faith
Of the Holy Scriptures
Chapter 1

PARAGRAPH 9

The infallible rule of interpretation of Scripture is the Scripture itself; and therefore when there is a question about the true and full sense of any Scripture (which are not many, but one), it must be searched by other places that speak more clearly.  20

Robert Murray M'Cheyne - God Makes A Path - Daily Devotional Readings
Peace perfect peace
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Thessalonians 5 v 23

God is  to you the 'very God of peace'. Once He was to you the God of vengeance, but now he is the very God of peace. You can look back on a time when you lived under the wrath of the great God that made you. God was angry with you every day. You were altogether born in sin. Your heart was altogether depraved. You heaped up wrath against the day of wrath. Oh, do you not wonder that you are not in hell!
But you have fled to the bleeding Lamb, guilty and perishing. You have taken shelter in His wounds. You have this day openly accepted Him. Oh, if this be true, then God is the very God of peace to you. If I could this day go up into heaven, and open the books, and look into the records of the world, I would find your sins all blotted out, as a thick cloud; I would look up in the face of God and see Him smiling over you, saying, Thy sins and thine iniquities will I remember no more.
Dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, rejoice evermore, for the God of vengeance is to you the very God of peace.
