Psalms 119:145-176 Daily Light - Morning Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts. Who hath directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being his counsellor hath taught him? God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; and base things of the world, and things which ae despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: that no flesh should glory in his presence. The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. - Born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. My spirit remaineth among you: fear ye not. - The battle is not yours, but God's. The LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD'S Zech. 4.6; Isa. 40.13 1 Co. 1.27-29 Jn. 3.8; Jn. 1.13 Hag. 2.5; 2 Chr. 20.15 1 Sa. 17.47 Daily Light - Evening Do as thou hast said. Stablish thy word unto thy servant, who is devoted to thy fear... So shall I have wherewith to answer him that reproacheth me: for I trust in thy word... Remember the word unto thy servant, upon which thou has caused me to hope... Thy statutes have been my songs in the house of my pilgrimage... The law of thy mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and silver... For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven. Thy faithfullness is unto all generations. God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath; that by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus. 2 Sa. 7.25; Ps. 119,38,42,49,54,72,89,90 He. 6.17-20 2 Pe. 1.4 A Puritans Catechism Q 72 - How is the Word made effectual to salvation? A - The Spirit of God makes the reading, but especially the preaching of the Word, and effectual means of convicting and converting sinners, and of building them up in holiness and comfort through faith to salvation. The 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith Of God's Covenant Chapter 7 PARAGRAPH 3 This covenant is revealed in the gospel; first of all to Adam in the promise of salvation by the seed of the woman,5 and afterwards by farther steps, until the full discovery thereof was completed in the New Testament;6 and it is founded in that eternal covenant transaction that was between the Father and the Son about the redemption of the elect;7 and it is alone by the grace of this covenant that all the posterity of fallen Adam that ever were saved did obtain life and blessed immortality, man being now utterly incapable of acceptance with God upon those terms on which Adam stood in his state of innocency.8 5 Gen. 3:15 6 Heb. 1:1 7 2 Tim. 1:9; Titus 1:2 8 Heb. 11;6,13; Rom. 4:1–2; Acts 4:12; John 8:56 Robert Murray M'Cheyne - God Makes A Path - Daily Devotional Readings Two heavens What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? Luke 15 v 4 Go brother, leaving the ninety-nine, go after the one sheep that was lost. Leave your home, your comforts, your bed, your ease, your all, to feed lost souls. The Lord of Glory left heaven for this; it is enough for the disciple to be as his Master. It is said of Alleine, that 'he was infinitely and insatiably greedy of the conversion of souls.' Rutherford wrote to his dear people, 'My Witness is above, that your heaven would be two heavens to me, and the salvation of you all as two salvations to me.' The Lord give you this heavenly compassion for this people. Do not be satisfied without conversion.
