Daily Prayer - Friday
Friday - Give thanks to God for many good things we enjoy and daily blessings. - Pray the Lord would supply the needs of those in the congregation at Westminster and guide us as we help those destitute and suffering. Especially those we have met in the pandemic. (Numbers 6.24-26.) - Pray for the ministry among the children and that they would know Christ from a young age. A rich blessing in this troubled world. - Pray for the evangelistic work, that people would know the greatest blessing of all salvation by the grace of God through Christ. Jeroboam's hand, which he put forth against him, withereth, but at the prayer of the prophet is restored. The prophet refuseth the king's offered entertainment, and departeth from Beth-el. He is seduced and brought back by an old prophet, who denounceth God's judgment against him for his disobedience to the divine command. A lion killeth him on his way home. The old prophet bringeth his carcase back, burieth it, and confirmeth his prophecy. Jeroboam still perisisteth in his evil courses. 1 Kings 13 Preface - Paul calleth to stedfastness in Christ, and after some particular admonitions, exhorteth generally to religious jo, moderation, trust in God with prayer, and to every branch of moral goodness. He testifieth his joy in the care shewn by the Philippians for his supply in prison, though being always content he was above want; and commendeth their former liberality to him, not for his own sake, but for the good that would redound to them from it. He acknowledgeth the receipt of their late bounty, assuring them that God would both accept and reward it. He giveth glory to God, and concludeth with salutations, and a blessing. Philippians 4 Daily Light - Morning The whole family in heaven and earth. One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. - Ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. - That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him. He is not ashamed to call them brethren. - Behold my mother and my brethren! For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother. - Go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father. I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held....and white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled. - That they without us should not be made perfect. Eph. 3.15; Eph. 4.6; Ga. 3.26; Eph. 1.10 He. 2.11; Mt. 12.49-50; Jn. 20.17 Rev. 6.9,10-11; He. 11.40 Daily Light - Evening After this manner....pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven. Jesus....lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father. - My Father, and your Father. Ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. - Ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with out spirit, that we are the children of God. Because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full. I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. Mt. 6.9; Jn. 17.1; Jn. 20.17 Ga. 3.26; Ro. 8.15-16 Ga. 4.6,7 Jn. 16.23-24 w Co. 6.17-18 A Puritans Catechism Q 50 -What is required in the fourth commandment? A - The fourth commandment requires the keeping holy to God such set times as he has appointed in his Word; expressly one whole day in seven, to be a holy sabbath to himself. The 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith Of God's Decree Chapter 3 PARAGRAPH 7 The doctrine of the high mystery of predestination is to be handled with special prudence and care, that men attending the will of God revealed in His Word, and yielding obedience thereunto, may, from the certainty of their effectual vocation, be assured of their eternal election; 18 so shall this doctrine afford matter of praise, 19 reverence, and admiration of God, and of humility, 20 diligence, and abundant consolation to all that sincerely obey the gospel.21 18 1 Thess. 1:4–5; 2 Pet. 1:10 19 Eph. 1:6; Rom. 11:33 20 Rom. 11:5–6, 20 21 Luke 10:20 Robert Murray M'Cheyne - God Makes A Path - Daily Devotional Readings It will be worth it all Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour. 1 Corinthians 3 v 8 The labour that Christ blesseth is believing labour. It is not words of human wisdom, but words of faith, that God makes arrows. The word of a little maid was blessed in the house of Naaman the Syrian. 'Follow me,' was made the arrow to pierce the heart of Matthew. It is all one to God to save, whether with many, or with them that have no might. If you would do all you can, the town would be filled with the fragrance. Christ will reward it. He defended Mary's work of love, and said it should be spoken of over all the world, and it will yet be told in the judgment. A cup of cold water He will not pass over. 'Well done good and faithful servant.'
