Daily Reading Plan - First Year
Preface - The Lord refuseth to go with the people. The people mourn thereat. The tabernacle is removed out of the camp. The Lord talketh familiarly with Moses out of the cloudy pillar. Moses prayeth for the continuance of God's presence, and desireth to see the glory of God.
Exodus 33
Preface - Mary anointeth the feet of Jesus: Judas murmureth at the cost. The people flock to see Lazarus: the chief priests consult to kill him. Jesus rideth into Jerusalem in triumph. Certain Greeks desire to see him. He sheweth the benefit of his death to believers; prayeth to his Father; is answered by a voice from heaven; signifieth the manner of his death; and exhorteth to make good use of the present light. The generality of the Jews believe not: yet many chief rulers believe, but dare not confess him: he urgeth faith in his divine mission.
John 12

Daily Light - Morning
Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of
Jordan, that it was well watered every where....
even as the garden of the LORD.... Then Lot chose
him all the plain of Jordan....and pitched his tent
toward Sodom. But the men of Sodom were wicked
and sinners before the LORD exceedingly.

Just Lot.... (that righteous man.)

Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever man soweth, that shall he also reap. - Remember Lot's wife.

Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing. - Be not ye....partakers with them. For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light....proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
Ge. 13.10-13; 2 Pe. 2.7,8
Ga. 6.7; Lu. 17.32
2 Co. 6.14,17; Eph. 5.7-8,10-11

Daily Light - Evening
If so be the LORD will be with me,
then I shall be able to drive them out,
as the LORD said.

He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me. - I will go in the strength of the Lord GOD: I will make mention of thy righteousness, even of thine only.

The work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand....having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness. - The LORD is with thee.... Go in this thy might.
Jos. 14.12; He. 13.5-6; Ps. 71.16
Isa. 32.17
Eph. 6.12-14; Judg. 6.12,14

Q 50 - What is required in the fourth commandment?
A - The fourth commandment requires the keeping holy to God such set times as he has appointed in his Word; expressly one whole day in seven, to be a holy sabbath to himself.

PARAGRAPH 4

These angels and men thus predestinated and foreordained, are particularly and unchangeably designed, and their number so certain and definite, that it cannot be either increased or diminished.  (10)

A triumphant deathbed
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
2 Timothy 4 v 7

I think the dying thief could say: I believe, and enter with joy into Paradise; but he could not say: 'I have kept the faith.' This makes the difference between a peaceful and triumphant death-bed. Paul 'bought the truth, and sold it not.' That good thing committed to him he kept, by the Holy Ghost given unto him. He held the beginning o fhis confidence steadfast unto the end.
Learn that perseverance in the faith is needful to a triumphant deathbed. It is Christ, and Christ alone, that is our peace in dying; yet the hand that has longest held him has the firmest hold. It is not our perseverance that is our righteousness before God, but the doing and dying of the Lord Jesus; and yet without perseverance in the faith ye cannot be saved. Alas! you that turn aside to folly, you are preparing clouds for your dying bed. Can you say you have kept the faith, poor backslider?
