Daily Reading Plan - First Year
Joshua 12) Preface - Joshua assembleth the tribes at Shechem, and layeth before them a brief history of God's benefits from the days of Terah. He reneweth the covenant between God and them. A stone is set up to witness the covenant. Joshua's age, death and burial. Joseph's bones are buried. Eleazar dieth.
Joshua 24
Joshua 13) Preface - The rulers of the Jews, offended with the teaching of Peter and John, imprison them. Being brought before the council, Peter boldly avoucheth the late cure to have been wrought in the name of Jesus, and that men can be saved by no other name. The council, struck with the boldness of the two apostles, after conferring together dismiss them with a threatening charge to speak no more in the name of Jesus. The church betaketh itself to prayer. The presence of the Holy Ghost is signified by the house shaking, and the apostles thereby emboldened to speak the word; the unity and charity of the church, who have their possessions in common.
Acts 4

Daily Light - Morning
Thou art a gracious God, and merciful,
slow to anger, and of great kindness,
and repentest three of the evil.

I beseech thee, let the power of my Lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying, The LORD is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.

O remember not against us former iniquities; let thy tender mercies speedily prevent us.... Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name: and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for thy name's sake. - LROD, though our iniquities testify against us, do thou it for thy name's sake: for our backslidings are many; we have sinned against thee. - We acknowledge, O LORD, our wickedness, and the iniquity of our fathers: for we have sinned against thee.

If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared.
Jon. 4.2; Nu. 14.17-18
Ps. 79.8,9; Jer. 14.7; Jer. 14.20
Ps. 130.3-4

Daily Light - Evening
Sanctification of the Spirit.

Awake, O north wind; and come; thou south; blow upon my garden, that the spices thereof may flow out.

Behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! - (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.

The Comforter....is the Holy Ghost. - The love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace.

In a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality.

All these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
2 Th. 2.13; Song 4.16
2 Co. 7.11; Eph. 5.9,10
Jn. 14.26; Ro. 5.5
Ga. 5.22
2 Co. 8.2
1 Co. 12.11

A Puritans Catechism
Q 78 - How is baptism rightly administered?

A - Baptism is rightly administered by immersion, or dipping the whole body of the person in water, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, according to Christ's institution, and the practice of the apostles, and not by sprinkling or pouring of water, or dipping some part of the body, after the tradition of men.

PARAGRAPH 3

Whosoever takes an oath warranted by the word of God, ought duly to consider the weightiness of so solemn an act, and therein to avouch nothing but what he knows to be truth; for that by rash, false, and vain oaths, the Lord is provoked, and for them this land mourns.  (6)
(6)-Lev. 19.12; Jer. 23.10

The Lord our Shepherd
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
Psalm 23 v 1

It is exceedingly interesting to know the many names by which Christ calls Himself in the Bible. These are above one hundred, I think one hundred and seven. He calls Himself a rose, 'I am the rose of Sharon,' and a lily, 'I am the lily of the valley.' The reason why He has so many names is that one name would not describe Him; He has so many offices that one name would not explain them; nay all of them put together do not, for Paul said, 'Unto me who am less than the least of all saints is this grace given, that I might preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ.' Of all the names given, that of a shepherd is the sweetest.
