Prayer - Tuesday
Tuesday - Give thanks to God for those who have recently recovered from sickness. - Pray for those who are sick or receiving treatment in our congregation. - Pray that we each would walk close to God, putting off sins that easily beset us and that we would daily give thanks for our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Becoming tributary to Shalmaneser, and afterward conspiring with the king of Egypt against him, he is shut up in prison. Shalmaneser after a three years' siege taketh Samaria, and carrieth Israel away captive for their wickedness, as the prophets had predicted. The strange nations, which were transplanted into the land of Israel, are plagued with lions; they send for one of the captive priests to teach them the worship of God, which they mix with thow own idolatry. 2 Kings 17 Preface - Christians are admonished to be subject to civil powers, and of a peaceable and quiet demeanour. They are saved from their sins by God's mercy through Christ, but must maintain good works. Genealogies and contentions about the law are to be avoided; and obstinate heretics to be rejected. Paul appointeth Titus when and where to come to him; recommendeth acts of mercy to Christians; and concludeth with salutations and a benediction. Titus 3 Daily Light - Morning Now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations. Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: but rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. - The exhortation....speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him. - Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby. We have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. - For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted. - God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able. 1 Pe. 1.6; 1 Pe. 4.12-13; He. 12.5; He. 12.11 He. 4.15; He. 2.18; 1 Co. 10.13 Daily Light - Evening The Prince of Peace. He shall judge thy people with righteousness, and thy poor with judgment. The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the little hills, by righteousness.... He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass: as showers that water the earth. In his days shall the righteous flourish; and abundance of peace so long as the moon endureth. - Glory to God...on earth peace, good will toward men. Through the tender mercy of our God...the dayspring from on high hath visited us, to give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. - Peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all). These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. - Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. - The peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. A - Baptism is an ordinance of the New Testament, instituted by Jesus Christ, to be to the person baptised a sign of his fellowship with him, in his death, and burial, and resurrection, of his being ingrafted into him, of remission of sins, and of his giving up himself to God through Jesus Christ, to live and walk in newness of life. The 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith Of Christ the Mediator Chapter 8 PARAGRAPH 4 This office the Lord Jesus did most willingly undertake,21 which that He might discharge He was made under the law,22 and did perfectly fulfill it, and underwent the punishment due to us, which we should have born and suffered,23 being made sin and a curse for us;24 enduring most grievous sorrows in His soul, and most painful sufferings in His body;25 was crucified, and died, and remained in the state of the dead, yet saw no corruption:26 on the third day He arose from the dead27 with the same body in which He suffered,28 with which He also ascended into heaven,29 and there sits at the right hand of His Father making intercession,30 and shall return to judge men and angels at the end of the world.31 21 Ps. 40:7–8; Heb. 10:5–10; John 10:18 22 Gal 4:4; Matt. 3:15 23 Gal. 3:13; Isa. 53:6; 1 Pet. 3:18 24 2 Cor. 5:21 25 Matt. 26:37,38; Luke 22:44; Matt. 27:46 26 Acts 13:37 27 1 Cor. 15:3–4 28 John 20:25,27 29 Mark 16:19; Acts 1:9–11 30 Rom. 8:34; Heb. 9:24 31 Acts 10:42; Rom. 14:9–10; Acts 1:11; 2 Pet. 2:4 Robert Murray M'Cheyne - God Makes A Path - Daily Devotional Readings A living picture After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. 1 Corinthians 11 v 25 You cannot look at Him on the cross as the disciples did - you cannot see Him shedding His blood that the blood of sinners might not be shed. Yet still, if God spare us, you may see bread broken and wine poured out - a living picture of the dying Saviour. His sufferings are all past. And how is it that you do not enjoy peace? It is because you do not consider. 'Israel doth not know, my people doth not consider.' Consider - has Jesus died in the stead o fguilty sinners, and do you heartily consent to take Jesus to be the man in your stead? Then, you do not need to die. O happy believer, rejoice evermore. Live within sight of Calvary, and you will live within sight of glory; and, O rejoice in the happy ordinance that sets a broken Saviour so plainly before you.
