Prayer - Tuesday
Tuesday - Give thanks to God for those who have recently recovered from sickness. - Pray for those who are sick or receiving treatment in our congregation. - Pray that we each would walk close to God, putting off sins that easily beset us and that we would daily give thanks for our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. (1. John 1.3; Hebrews 12.1; 1 Thes. 5.16.) The women's song in honour of his victory exciteth Saul's envy; who in his fury seeketh to kill him. Saul feareth David for his wisdom and good success. He promiseth him his eldest daughter by way of a snare, but giveth her to another. He promiseth him Michal his younger daughter. Saul setteth his servants to persuade David to be the king's son in law upon condition of bringing a hundred, and hath Michal given him to wife. Saul's hatred increaseth, and David's glory. 1 Samuel 18 Preface - Paul commendeth Phebe to the Christians at Rome, and sendeth salutations to many by name. He warneth them to take heed of those who casue divisions and offences. After sundry salutations, he concludeth with praise to God. Romans 16 Daily Light - Morning Thou shalt make a plate of pure gold, and gave upon it, like the engravings of a signet, HOLINESS TO THE LORD. Holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord. - God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. - But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousness are as filthy rags. - I will be sanctified in them that come nigh me, and before all the people I will be glorified. This is the law of the house; Upon the top of the mountain the whole limit thereof round about shall be most holy. - Holiness becometh thine house, O LORD, for ever. For their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. - Seeing...that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession... Let us....come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Ex. 28.36; He. 12.14; Jn. 4.24; Isa. 64.6; Lev. 10.3 Ezek. 43.12; Ps. 93.5 Jn. 17.19; He. 4.14,16 Daily Light - Evening My cup runneth over. Otaste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him. O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him. The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing. - His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot. The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage. - Whether....the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours. - Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ. I have learned in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. - Godliness with contentment is great gain. - My God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Ps. 23.5; Ps. 34.8-10; Lam. 3.22-23 Ps. 16.5-6; 1 Co. 3.22; Eph. 1.3 Phil. 4.11; 1 Tim. 6.6; Phil. 4.19 A Puritans Catechism Q 24 - How does Christ execute the office of a priest? A - Christ executes the office of a priest, in his once offering up of himself a sacrifice to satisfy divine justice, and reconcile us to God, and in making continual intercession for us. The 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith Of the Holy Scriptures Chapter 1 PARAGRAPH 5 We may be moved and induced by the testimony of the church of God to a high and reverent esteem of the Holy Scriptures; and the heavenliness of the matter, the efficacy of the doctrine, and the majesty of the style, the consent of all the parts, the scope of the whole (which is to give all glory to God), the full discovery it makes of the only way of man's salvation, and many other incomparable excellencies, and entire perfections thereof, are arguments whereby it does abundantly evidence itself to be the Word of God; yet notwithstanding, our full persuasion and assurance of the infallible truth, and divine authority thereof, is from the inward work of the Holy Spirit bearing witness by and with the Word in our hearts. 8 8 John 16:13-14; 1 Cor. 2:10-12; 1 John 2:20, 27 Robert Murray M'Cheyne - God Makes A Path - Daily Devotional Readings A lie of Satan Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. 1 Corinthians 10 v 12 I am tempted to think that I am now an established Christian - that I have overcome this or that lust so long, that I have got into the habit of the opposite grace - so that there is no fear. I may venture very near the temptation - nearer than other men. This is the lie of Satan. I might as well speak of gunpowder getting by habit a power of resisting fire, so as not to catch the spark. As long as powder is wet it resists the spark; but when it becomes dry it is ready to explode at the first touch. As long as the Spirit dwells in my heart He deadens me to sin, so that, if lawfully called through temptation, I may reckon upon God carrying me through. But when the Spirit leaves me I am like dry gunpowder. O for a sense of this!
