Prayer - Tuesday
Tuesday
- Give thanks to God for those who have recently recovered from sickness.
- Pray for those who are sick or receiving treatment in our congregation.
- Pray that we each would walk close to God, putting off sins that easily beset us and that we would daily give thanks for our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. (1. John 1.3; Hebrews 12.1; 1 Thes. 5.16.)

Daily Reading Plan - First Year
Preface - Elijah after foretelling a long drought is sent by God to the brook Cherith, and fed there by ravens. He is afterwards sent to a widow of Zarephath, and miraculously reneweth her barrel of meal and cruse of oil. The widows' son dieth, and is restored to life by Elijah's prayer: the woman believeth him to be sent from God.
1 Kings 17
Preface - The duty of masters toward their servants. A general exhortation to perseverance in prayer, discreet conduct, and well-ordered speech. The apostle commendeth Tychicus and Onesimus, by whom he sent this epistle: and concludeth with various salutatiions, and a blessing.
Colossians 4

Daily Light - Morning
Of his fulness have all we received,
and grace for grace.

This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. - Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God.

His Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things. - If children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

I and my Father are one. The Father is in me, and I in him. - My Father, and your Father; and...my God, and your God. - I in them, and thou in  me, that they may be made perfect in one.

The church, which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

Having...these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
Jn. 1.16; Mt. 17.5; 1 Jn. 3.1
He. 1.2; Ro. 8.17
Jn. 10.30,38; Jn. 20.17; Jn. 17.23
Eph. 1.22-23
2 Co. 7.1

Daily Light - Evening
The servant is not greater than his lord;
neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.
If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.

There was...a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest. And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors. But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve. For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth. - Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

Jesus...riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself. After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.
Jn. 13.16,17; Lu. 22.24-27; Mt. 20.28
Jn. 13.3,4-5

PARAGRAPH 5

The most wise, righteous, and gracious God does often times leave for a season His own children to manifold temptations and the corruptions of their own hearts, to chastise them for their former sins, or to discover unto them the hidden strength of corruption and deceitfulness of their hearts, that they may be humbled; and to raise them to a more close and constant dependence for their support upon Himself; and to make them more watchful against all future occasions of sin, and for other just and holy ends. 15 So that whatsoever befalls any of His elect is by His appointment, for His glory, and their good. 16
15 2 Chron. 32:25–26,31; 2 Cor. 12:7-9
16 Rom. 8:28

Arrange beforehand
And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.
Luke 11 v 1

Pray to be taught to pray. Do not be content with old forms that flow from the lips only. Most Christians have need to cast their formal prayers away, to be taught to cry, Abba. Arrange beforehand what you have to pray for. Do not forget confession of sin, nor thanksgiving. Pray to get your closed lips opened in intercession - embrace the whole world and carry it within the vail.
