Daily Reading Plan - First Year Preface - David consulteth with Jonathan how to provide for his safety: The friendly league between them confirmed by oath. They agree upon a token. David absenting himself from the king's table is excused by Jonathan; Saul being enraged seeketh to kill Jonathan. Jonathan informeth David of his danger by the token agreed on. The two friends take a loving leave of each other. 1 Samuel 20 Preface - Paul declareth that he did not use human learning and eloquence in preaching the gospel to his converts, that their faith, being built on the testimony of the spirit, and on miracles, might be solely ascribed to God. The gospel doth contain God's wise, but secret, counsel, for bringing men to glory; which no natural abilities could discover, but the spirit of God only, by which it was revealed to the apostles. Upon this account both the doctrine and its teachers are held in disesteem by the mere natural man, who is not duly qualified to judge of and discern them. 1 Corinthians 2 Daily Light - Morning The accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony. - Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. Having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly. - That through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; and deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. - In all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. - Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.... And take....the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. - Thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. - He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. - As the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.... As the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself. To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God. - In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. Happy is the man that findeth wisdom.... Length of days is in her right hand... She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her. - Christ Jesus....is made unto us wisdom. A - Christ's humiliation consisted in his being born, and that in a low condition, made under the law, undergoing the miseries of this life, the wrath of God, and the cursed death of the cross; in being buried, and continuing under the power of death for a time. The 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith Of God and the Holy Trinity Chapter 2 PARAGRAPH 3 In this divine and infinite Being there are three subsistences, the Father, the Word or Son, and Holy Spirit,27 of one substance, power, and eternity, each having the whole divine essence, yet the essence undivided:28 the Father is of none, neither begotten nor proceeding; the Son is eternally begotten of the Father;29 the Holy Spirit proceeding from the Father and the Son;30 all infinite, without beginning, therefore but one God, who is not to be divided in nature and being, but distinguished by several peculiar relative properties and personal relations; which doctrine of the Trinity is the foundation of all our communion with God, and comfortable dependence on Him. 27 1 John 5:7; Matt. 28:19; 2 Cor. 13:14 28 Exod. 3:14; John 14:11; I Cor. 8:6 29 John 1:14,18 30 John 15:26; Gal. 4:6 Robert Murray M'Cheyne - God Makes A Path - Daily Devotional Readings Sin confessed and cleaned If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1 v 9 I am persuaded that I ought to confess my sins more. I think I ought to confess sin the moment I see it to be sin; whether I am in company, or in study, or even preaching, the soul ought to cast a glance of abhorrence at the sin. If I go on with the duty, leaving the sin unconfessed, I go on with a burdened conscience, and add sin to sin. I think I ought at certain times of the day - by best times - say, after breakfast and after tea - to confess solemnly the sins of the previous hours, and to seek their complete remission.
