Daily Reading
Preface - The church is roused with God's promise of free redemption. The welcome news of Christ's kingdom; the church is exhorted to rejoice therein; and to flee from bondage and its defilements. A prophecy of the glory of Christ after his sufferings.
Isaiah 52
Preface - The river and tree of life: the glorious state of the servants of God. John is forbidden by the angel to worship him; and commanded not to seal up the prophecy. Christ's coming and eternity. The blessedness of them that do God's commandments. Nothing must be added to or taken from this prophecy. The concluding benediction.
Revelation 22

Daily Light - Morning
Take this child away, and nurse it for me,
and I will give thee thy wages.

Go ye...into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. - Whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward. - The liberal soul shall be made fat; and he that watereth shall be watered also himself. - God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love...in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

Every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.

Lord, when saw we thee an hungered, and fed thee?... And the King shall answer and say unto them...Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. - Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
Ex. 2.9; Mt. 20.4; Mk. 9.41; Pro. 11.25; He. 6.10
1 Co. 3.8
Mt. 25.37-38,40; Mt. 25.34

Daily Light - Evening
Thou compassest my path
and my lying down.

Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in the place; and I knew it not. And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.

The eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him.

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.

Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; there shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. - When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet. - So he giveth his beloved sleep.
Ps. 139.3; Ge. 28.16-17
2 Chr. 16.9
Ps. 4.8
Ps. 91.9-11; Pro. 3.24; Ps. 127.2

A Puritans Catechism

Q 21 - How did Christ, being the Son of God, become man?
A - Christ, the Son of God, became man by taking to himself a true body, and a reasonable soul, being conceived by the power of the Holy Ghost in the Virgin Mary, and born of her, yet without sin.

The 1689
Baptist Confession of Faith
Of Sanctification
Chapter 13
PARAGRAPH 3

In which war, although the remaining corruption for a time may much prevail, yet through the continual supply of strength from the sanctifying Spirit of Christ, the regenerate part doth overcome; and so the saints grow in grace, perfecting holiness in the fear of God, pressing after an heavenly life, in evangelical obedience to all the commands which Christ as Head and King, in His Word hath prescribed them.
  1. Romans 7:23
  2. Romans 6:14
  3. Ephesians 4:15,16
  4. 2 Corinthians 3:18
  5. 2 Corinthians 7:1

Robert Murray M'Cheyne - God Makes A Path - Daily Devotional Readings
Christian oneness
And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also - 1 John 4 v 21

The soul in Christ has many sweet companions - brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus. The soul that is united to the vine tree is united to all the branches: 'We know that we are passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. 'I am a companion of all them that fear thee.'
