Haggai reproveth the people's delay in building the temple: he inciteth them to set about it: he promiseth them, being forward of themselves, God's assistance. The work is set forward. Haggai 1 Preface - Christ turneth water into wine in Cana of Galilee: he goeth to Capernaum: thence to Jerusalem, where he driveth the buyers and sellers out of the temple: he giveth his own death and resurrection for a sign: many believe in him because of his miracles, but he would not trust himself unto them. John 2 Daily Light - Morning The king of Israel, even the LORD, is in the midst of thee. - Emmanuel...God with us. Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. - Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees. Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you. - The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing. - Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart. I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain. Zeph. 3.15; Mt. 1.23; Isa. 41.10; Isa. 35.3-4; Zeph. 3.17; Ps. 27.14 Rev. 21.3-4 Daily Light - Evening Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward. Be of good courage, and let us behave ourselves valiantly for our people, and for the cities of our God: and let the LORD do that which is good in his sight. - We made our prayer unto our God, and set a watch against them day and night. Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. - If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God. - Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD. Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation. - Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong. - Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord. Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees. Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not. Ex. 14.15; 1 Chr. 19.13; Ne. 4.9 Mt. 7.21; Jn. 7.17; Hos. 6.3 Mt. 26.41; 1 Co. 16.13; Ro. 12.11 Isa. 35.3-4 A Puritans Catechism Q 32 - What is justification? A - Justification is an act of God's free grace, wherein he pardons all our sins, and accepts us as righteous in his sight, only for the righteousness of Christ imputed to us, and received by faith alone. The 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith Of Good Works Chapter 16 PARAGRAPH 5 We cannot by our best works merit pardon of sin or eternal life at the hand of God, by reason of the great disproportion that is between them and the glory to come, and the infinite distance that is between us and God, whom by them we can neither profit nor satisfy for the debt of our former sins;14 but when we have done all we can, we have done but our duty, and are unprofitable servants; and because they are good they proceed from his Spirit,15 and as they are wrought by us they are defiled and mixed with so much weekness and imperfection, that they cannot endure the severity of God’s punishment.16 14 Rom. 3:20; Eph. 2:8–9; Rom. 4:6 15 Gal. 5:22–23 16 Isa. 64:6; Ps. 43:2 Robert Murray M'Cheyne - God Makes A Path - Daily Devotional Readings Your name is in the Bible Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man. Proverbs 8 v 4 Some of you may be saying, 'If I could see my name in the Bible, then I would believe that Christ wants me to be saved. When Christ called Zaccheus, He said, 'Zacheus, come down.' He called him by name, and he came down immediately. Now, if Christ would call me by name, I would run to Him immediately.' Now, to you, I say, Christ does call you by your name, for He says, 'To you, O men, I call.' Suppose that Christ had written down the names of all the men and women in the world, your name would have been there. Now, instead of writing down every name, He puts them all together in one word, which includes every man and woman, and child - 'Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man.' So your name is in the Bible. 'Go and preach the Gospel to every creature.'
