He recommendeth a solemn fasting with prayer to deprecate these judgments. Joel 1 Psalms 140) Preface - David prayeth God to deliver him from the mischief of his enemies, to frustrate their devices, and turn their evil upon themselves: his confidence in God's vindication of the poor mans cause. Psalms 141) Preface - David prayeth that his suit may be acceptable, his conscience free from guilt, and his person safe from the snares of the wicked. Psalms 140-141 Daily Light - Morning I have laid help upon one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of the people. I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour. - There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. - There is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. The mighty God. - Who...made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name. - We see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. - Forasmuch...as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same. Ps. 89.19; Isa. 43.11; 1 Tim. 2.5; Ac. 4.12 Isa. 9.6; Phil. 2.6,7-9; He. 2.9; He. 2.14 Daily Light - Evening Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice. Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation. - He is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death...they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance. Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am. Then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together is elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven. - If any of thine be driven out unto the outmost parts of heaven, from thence will the LORD thy God gather thee, and from thence will he fetch thee. The dead in Christ shall rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Ps. 50.5; He. 9.28; He. 9.15 Jn. 17.24; Mk. 13.27; Deu. 30.4 1 Th. 4.16-17 A Puritans Catechism Q 81 - What is required for the worthy receiving of the Lord's Supper? A - It is required of them who would worthily partake of the Lord's Supper, that they examine themselves of their knowledge to discern the Lord's body, of their faith to feed upon him, of their repentance, love, and new obedience, lest, coming unworthily, they eat and drink judgment to themselves. The 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith Of Christ the Mediator Chapter 8 PARAGRAPH 9 This office of mediator between God and man is proper only to Christ, who is the prophet, priest, and king of the church of God; and may not be either in whole, or any part thereof, transferred from Him to any other.43 43 1 Tim. 2:5 Robert Murray M'Cheyne - God Makes A Path - Daily Devotional Readings The same joy And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement. Romans 5 v 11 No joy is like the Divine joy. It is infinite, full, eternal, pure unmingled joy. It is light, without any cloud to darken it - it is calm, without any breath to ruffle it. Clouds and darkness are round about Him. - storms and fire go before Him; but within, all is peace ineffable, unchangeable. Believers in some measure share in this joy. We might mention some of the clements of God's joy. FIrst, all things happen according to the good pleasure of His will. He has foreordained whatsoever comes to pass. Nothing comes unprepared upon God. Many things are hateful in His sight, yet, looking on the whole, he can delight in all. If you have come to Christ, you will have some drops of His joy. You can look upon all events with a calm, holy joy, knowing that your Father's will and purposes alone shall stand. Second, the conversion of souls. There is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner repenting, more than over ninety-nine who need no repentance. I have no doubt that this is one of the great elements of His joy - seeing souls brought into His favour. God loves to save; He delighteth in mercy; He delights when He can be a just God and a Saviour. If you are come to Christ, you will have the same joy.
