Daily Reading Plan - Second Year
Preface - From chapter ten to the twenty-fifth are various observations of moral virtues and their contrary vices.
Proverbs 15
Preface - Paul earnestly recommendeth to the Philippians mutual love and union, lowliness of mind, and that charitable condesension for the good of others, exemplified in the life and death of Christ, for which God had exalted him to be Lord of all. He exhorteth them to carefulness in working out their own salvation, to obey the will of God cheerfully and universally, that so they might distinguish themselves from the rest of the world by a bright example of virtue; and by their steadiness give him cause to rejoice in the success of his labours, who would gladly lay down his life to serve them. He hopeth to send Timothy to them shortly, whom he greatly commendeth; as he doth the affection and zeal of Epaphroditus, whom he sendeth with this epistle.
Philippians 2

Daily Light - Morning
Adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour
in all things.

Let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ. - Abstain from all appearance of evel. - If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye... But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters. - Be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world. - Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: so shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man. - Brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Titus 2.10; Phil. 1.27; 1 Th. 5.22; 1 Pe. 4.14,15; Phil. 2.15; Mt. 5.16
Pro. 3.3-4; Phil. 4.8

Daily Light - Evening
Thy words that I speak unto you,
they are spirit, and they are lfie.

Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth. - The letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

Christ...loved the church, and gave himself for ti; that he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, that he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing.

Wherewithall shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. - Thy word hath quickened me. - Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee... I will not forget thy word... I trust in thy word... The law of thy mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and silver... I will never forget thy precepts: for with them thou hast quickened me... How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth! Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.
Jn. 6.63; Jas. 1.18; 2 Co. 3.6
Eph. 5.25-27
Ps. 119.9; Ps. 119.50; Ps. 119.11,16,42,72,93,103-104

Q 44 - Which is the second commandment?
A - The second commandment is, Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generationof them that hate me; and showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

Holy rapture
The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Ye, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore iwth loving kindness have I drawn thee.
Jeremiah 31 v 3

Does it give you no joy to feel that God thought upon you in love before the foundation of the world? That when He was alone from all eternity. He gave you to the Son to be redeemed? 'Before I formed thee int he belly, I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb, I sanctified thee. 'Does it give you no joy to think that the Son of God though on you with love before the world was: 'My delights were with the children of men.' That He came into the world bearing your name upon His heart, that he prayed for you on the night of His agony: 'Neither ray I for these alone, but for all those that shall believe on me through their word'. Does it give you no joy that he thought upon you in His bloody sweat, that He thougth of you upon the cross, and intended these sufferings to be in your stead? Oh, little children, how it would lift you hearts in holy rapture above the world, above its vexing cares, its petty quarrels, its polluting pleasures, if you would keep this holy joy within, taking up the very word of your Lord: 'Father, thou loveddst me before the foundation of the world'!
