Daily Reading Plan - First Year
Preface - Abijah, Jeroboam's son, being sick, Jeroboam sendeth his wife in disguise with presents to enquire of Ahijah the prophet. Ahijah, forewarned by God of her coming, denounceth God's judgments against Jeroboam's house. Abijah dieth, and is buried. Jeroboam dieth, and is succeeded by Nadab. Rehoam's wicked reign. Shishak king of Egypt carrieth away much treasure from Jerusalem. Rehoboam dieth, and is succeeded by Abijam.
1 Kings 14
Preface - After saluting the saints at Colosse, Paul testifieth his thankfulness to God for the good account he had heard  of their faith and love; and his continual prayers for their improvement in spiritual knowledge, right practice, and thanksgiving to God for the benefits of redemption by his Son. He sheweth them the exalted nature and mediatorial office of Christ, by whom they, who were once enemies, were now reconciled, if they continued true to the gospel, whereof he Paul was made a minister to preach it to the Gentiles.
Colossians 1

Daily Light - Morning
Be not far from me; for trouble is near.

How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me? How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart daily? - Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.

He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. - The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth. He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them.

I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. - Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. - Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation. - My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.
Ps. 22.11; Ps. 13.1-2; Ps. 27.9
Ps. 91.15; Ps. 145.18-19
Jn. 14.18; Mt. 28.20
Ps. 46.1; Ps. 62.1; Ps. 62.5

Daily Light - Evening
Hallowed by thy name.

Thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.

Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders? - Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty.

Worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness. - I saw....the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. Above it stood the seraphims.... And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.... Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone. - I have heard of thee, Wherefore I abhor myself.

The blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. - That we might be partakers of his holiness. - Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus....let us draw near with a true heart.
Mt. 6.9; Ex. 34.14
Ex. 15.11; Rev. 4.8
1 Chr. 16.29; Isa. 6.1-3,5; Job 42.5-6
1 Jn. 1.7; He. 12.10; He. 10.19,22

Q 51 - How is the sabbath to be sanctified?
A. - The sabbath is to be sanctified by a holy resting all that day, even from such worldly employments and recreations as are lawful on other days; and spending the whole time in the public and private exercises of God's worship, except so much as is to be taken up in the works of necessity and mercy.

The blessed prayer of the bride
He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly.
Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
Revelation 22 v 20

Even the most enlightened believers are walking here in a darksome night, or twilight at most; and the visits of Jesus to the soul do but serve to make the surrounding darkness more visible. But the night is far spent, the day is at hand. The day of eternity is breaking in the east. The Sun of Righteousness is hasting to rise upon our world, and the shadows are preparing to flee away. Till then, the heart of every true believer, that knows the preciousness of close communion with the Saviour, breathes the earnest prayer, that Jesus would often come again, thus sweetly and suddenly to lighten him in his darksome pilgrimage. Ah, yes, my friends, let every one, who loves the Lord Jesus in sincerity, join now in the blessed prayer of the bride - 'Until the day break and the shadows flee away, turn, my beloved, and be thou like a roe or a young hart upon the mountains of Bether.'
