Daily Readings for Monday 4th November 2024

Prayer - Monday
- Give thanks to God for salvation and the redemption that is found alone through Jesus Christ.
- Give thanks to God for granting us particular skills and abilities that we might fulfil our vocations (jobs, studies, family responsibilities and time we spend    alone). (Ecclesiastes 9.10, Ephesians 6.6)
- Pray for the Lord's blessing on the working week for us and all in the congregation.
- Pray the Lord would grant us grace to be good ambassadors for Christ (2 Corinthians 5.20)

Now for a season, if need be,
ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations.

Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as thou some strange thing happened unto you: but rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. - The exhortation...speaketh unto you as unto children. My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him. - Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

We have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. - For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted. - God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able.

Daily Light - Evening
The Prince of Peace.

He shall judge thy people with righteousness, and thy poor with judgment. The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the little hills, by righteousness... He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass: as showers that water the earth. In his days shall the righteous flourish; and abundance of peace so long as the moon endureth.  - Glory to God...on earth peace, good will toward men.

Through the tender mercy of our God...the dayspring from on high hath visited us, to give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. - Peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all).

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. - Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. - The peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

A living picture
After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.
1 Corinthians 2 v 25

You cannot look at Him on the cross as the disciples did - you cannot see Him shedding His blood that the blood of sinners might not be shed. Yet still, if God spare us, you may see bread broken and wine poured out - a living picture of the dying Saviour. His sufferings are all past. And how is it that you do not enjoy peace? It is because you do not consider. 'Israel doth not know, my people doth not consider.' Consider - has Jesus died in the stead of guilty sinners, and do you heartily consent to take Jesus to be the man in your stead? Then, you do not need to die. O happy believer, rejoice evermore. Live wihthin sight of Calvary, and you will live within sight of glory; and, O rejoice in the happy ordinance that sets a broken Saviour so plainly before you.
