Daily Readings for Monday 26th August 2024

Prayer - Monday
- Give thanks to God for salvation and the redemption that is found alone through Jesus Christ.
- Give thanks to God for granting us particular skills and abilities that we might fulfil our vocations (jobs, studies, family responsibilities and time we spend    alone). (Ecclesiastes 9.10, Ephesians 6.6)
- Pray for the Lord's blessing on the working week for us and all in the congregation.
- Pray the Lord would grant us grace to be good ambassadors for Christ (2 Corinthians 5.20)

Daily Light - Morning
Thou shalt make a plate of pure gold,
and grave upon it, like the engravings of a signet,
HOLINESS TO THE LORD.

Holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord. - God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. - But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousness are as filthy rags. - I will be sanctified in them that come nigh me, and before all the people I will be glorified.

This is is the law of the house; Upon the top of the mountain the whole limit thereof round about shall be most holy. - Holiness becometh thine house, O LORD, for ever.

For their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. - Seeing...that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession... My cup runneth over.

O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him. O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him. The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing​. - His compassions fail not.  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot. The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places, yea, I have a godly heritage. - Whether...the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours. - Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.

A lie of Satan

I am tempted to think that I am now an established Christian - that I have overcome this or that lust so long, that I have got into the habit of the opposite grace - so that there is no fear. I may venture very near the temptation - nearer than other men. This is the lie of Satan. I might as well speak of gunpowder getting by habit a power of resisting fire, so as not to catch the spark. As long as powder is wet it resists the spark; but when it becomes dry it is ready to explode at the first touch. As long as the Spirit dwells in my heart He deadens me to sin, so that, if lawfully called through temptation, I may reckon upon God carrying me through. But when the Spirit leaves me I am like dry gunpowder. O for a sense of this?
