Isaiah 56
Preface - Christ fasteth forty days, is tempted of the devil, and ministered unto by angels. He dwelleth in Capernaum: beginneth to preach; calleth Peter and Andrew; James and John; teacheth in the synagogues, and healeth the diseased.
Matthew 4

Daily Light - Morning
The ark of the covenant of the LORD
went before them...
to search out a resting place for them.

My times are in thy hand. - He shall choose our inheritance for us. - Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness ...make thy way straight before my face.

Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shalt bring it to pass. - In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. - Thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. - Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him. For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust. - Your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. - Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
Nu. 10.33; Ps. 31.15; Ps. 47.4; Ps. 5.8
Ps. 37.5; Pro. 3.6; Isa. 30.21
Ps. 23.1-2; Ps. 103.13-14; Mt. 6.32; 1 Pe. 5.7

Daily Light - Evening
Rabbi (Which is to say...Master,)
where dwellest thou?
He saith unto them, Come and see.

In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. - To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne.

Thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. - How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.
Jn. 1.38-39; Jn. 14.2-3; Rev. 3.21
Isa. 57.15
Rev. 3.20
Mt. 28.20; Ps. 36.7

A Puritans Catechism

Q 25 - How does Christ execute the office of a king?
A - Christ executes the office of a king in subduing us to himself, in ruling and defending us, and in restraining and conquering all his and our enemies.

The 1689
Baptist Confession of Faith
Of Repentance Unto Life and Salvation
Chapter 15
PARAGRAPH 1

Such of the elect as are converted at riper years, having sometime lived in the state of nature, and therein served divers lusts and pleasures, God in their effectual calling giveth them repentance unto life.
  1. Titus 3:2-5

Robert Murray M'Cheyne - God Makes A Path - Daily Devotional Readings
A Gospel ministry
For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and
ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake.
2 Corinthians 4 v 5

Many men preach themselves - they preach their own theories. Many before the days of the apostles did this - they taught their own fancies. But when the apostles came they took a very different manner. Witness John the Baptist - 'Behold the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world.' So the apostles; they said, 'We are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree.' And then you remember Philip when he went down to Samaria, 'he preached Christ unto them.' And this is exactly what John says in his 1st Epistle, 'That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you.' This is the very beginning, middle, and end of a gospel ministry. And looking back on the five years we have been together, I think I can lay my hand upon my heart and feebly think this is what I have done. And why should we do this? Because it is the most awakening truth in the world. One evening lately, I was passing by a building and I heard a man speaking, who seemed in earnest. I stopped and listened - he was preaching about laws and politics. I said that man may preach to the day of judgement, but he will never make the people holy. But we preach Christ Jesus the Lord, that you may be made holy.
