Christ upbraideth the cities of Chorazin, Bethsaida, and Capernaum, with their long unfruitfulness and impenitency. Matthew 11

Daily Light - Morning
The fruit of the Spirit is...goodness.

Be ye...followers of God, as dear children. - Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; that ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. - Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

The fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth.

After that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour. - The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works. - He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
Ga. 5.22; Eph. 5.1; Mt. 5.44-45; Lu. 6.36
Eph. 5.9
Titus 3.4-6; Ps. 145.9; Ro. 8.32

Daily Light - Evening
Ebenezer...
Hitherto hath the LORD helped us.

I was brought low, and he helped me. - Blessed be the LORD, because he hath heard the voice of my supplications. The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.

It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes. - Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God. - He led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation. - There failed not ought of any good thing which the LORD had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass.

When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing. - Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.
1 Sa. 7.12; Ps. 116.6; Ps. 28.6-7
Ps. 118.8-9; Ps. 146.5; Ps. 107.7; Jos. 21.45
Lu. 22.35; Ps. 63.7

A Puritans Catechism

Q 32 - What is justification?
A - Justification is an act of God's free grace, wherein he pardons all our sins, and accepts us as righteous in his sight, only for the righteousness of Christ imputed to us, and received by faith alone.

The 1689
Baptist Confession of Faith
Of Good Works
Chapter 16
PARAGRAPH 3

Their ability to do good works is not at all of themselves, but wholly from the Spirit of Christ; and that they may be enabled thereunto, besides the graces they have already received, there is necessary an actual influence of the same Holy Spirit, to work in them to will and to do of his good pleasure; yet they are not hereupon to grow negligent, as if they were not bound to perform any duty, unless upon a special motion of the Spirit, but they ought to be diligent in stirring up the grace of God that is in them.
  1. John 15:4,5
  2. 2 Corinthians 3:5
  3. Philippians 2:13
  4. Philippians 2:12
  5. Hebrews 6:11,12
  6. Isaiah 64:7

Robert Murray M'Cheyne - God Makes A Path - Daily Devotional Readings
Follow Jesus
And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man,
named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom:
and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he
arose, and followed him.
Matthew 9 v 9

Matthew was sitting at the receipt of custom when Jesus passed by. How wonderful is the grace of the Lord Jesus. Some of you may be living in an evil calling, or in your sins. Look up, the Lord Jesus this night may turn His eye upon you.
A simple word is blessed - 'Follow me'. No argument. It is probable he had heard of Christ, heard Him preach, seen the preceding miracle; still he was at his old trade, till Jesus said, 'Follow me.' A little word reached his heart. We often make great mistakes-often make use of long arguments to bring people to Christ. Often we make us of long high-sounding words, and expect them to be blessed; whereas it is the simple exhibition of Christ.
