Ezekiel 47 Preface - An exhortation to bless God for his mercy, and for the constancy thereof. Psalms 103 Daily Light - Morning Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living. It pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. - Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? - We thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: and that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again. Let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. - Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, who by him do believe in God. Ro. 14.9; Isa. 53.10-11; Lu. 24.26; 2 Co. 5.14-15 Ac. 2.36; 1 Pe. 1.20-21 Daily Light - Evening Give us this day our daily bread. I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. - Bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure. - The ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook. My God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. - Be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. He humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna...that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, buty by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live. - Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. Mt. 6.11; Ps. 37.25; Isa. 33.16; 1 Ki. 17.6 Phil. 4.19; He. 13.5 Due. 8.3; Jn. 6.32-34 A Puritans Catechism Q 55 - Which is the sixth commandment? A - The sixth commandment is, Thou shalt not kill. The 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith Of Creation Chapter 4 PARAGRAPH 1 In the beginning it pleased God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,1 for the manifestation of the glory of His eternal power,2 wisdom, and goodness, to create or make the world, and all things therein, whether visible or invisible, in the space of six days, and all very good.3 1 John 1:2–3; Heb. 1:2; Job 26:13 2 Rom. 1:20 3 Col. 1:16; Gen. 1:31 Robert Murray M'Cheyne - God Makes A Path - Daily Devotional Readings Hidden O my dove, that art in the clefts of the rock, in the secret places of the stairs, let me see thy countenance, let me hear thy voice; for sweet is thy voice, and thy countenance is comely. Song of Solomon 2 v 14 As a timorous dove pursued by the vulture, and well night made a prey, with fluttering anxious wing, hides itself deeper than ever in the clefts of the rock, and in the secret places of the precipice, so the backslidden believer, whom Satan has desired to have, that he might sift him as wheat, when he is restored once more to the all-gracious presence of his Lord, clings to Him with fluttering, anxious faith, and hides himself deeper than ever in the wounds of his Saviour. Thus it was that the fallen Peter, when he had so grievously denied his Lord, yet, when brought again within sight of the Saviour, standing upon the shore, was the only one of the disciples who girt his father's coat unto him, and cast himself into the sea to swim to Jesus; and just as that backslidden apostle, when again he had hidden himself in the clefts of the Rock of Ages, found that the love of Jesus was more tender towards him than ever, when he began that conversation, which, more than all the others in the Bible, combines the kindest of reproofs with the kindest of encouragements, 'Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these?' just so does every backslidden believer find, that when again he is hidden in the fleshly opened wounds of his Lord, the fountain of His love begins to flow afresh, and the stream of kindness and affection is fuller and more overflowing than ever, for His word is, 'Oh, my dove, that art in the clefts of the rock, in the secret places of the precipice, let me see thy countenance, let me hear thy voice; for sweet is thy voice, and thy countenance is comely.'
