Daily Reading Preface - The judgment of Moab, for presuming upon her wealth, her uninterrupted prosperity, and her strength for war, and for her contempt of God, and insult toward his people. The restoration of Moab. Jeremiah 48 Preface - David's confidence in prayer: he prayeth for remission of sins, and for help in affliction. Psalms 25 Daily Light - Morning As he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation. Ye know how we exhorted...and charged every one of you... That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory. - An holy nation...that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light. Ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. - Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. - Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. 1 Pe. 1.15; 1 Th. 2.11,12; 1 Pe. 2.9 Eph. 5.8-11; Phil. 1.11 Mt. 5.16; 1 Co. 10.31 Daily Light - Evening Ask me of things to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye me. A new heart...will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes... Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will yet for this be enquired of by the house of Israel, to do it for them. If two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Isa. 45.11; Ezek. 36.26-27,37 Mt. 18.19-20 Mk. 11.22-23 A Puritans Catechism Q 81 - What is required for the worthy receiving of the Lord's Supper? A - It is required of them who would worthily partake of the Lord's Supper, that they examine themselves of their knowledge to discern the Lord's body, of their faith to feed upon him, of their repentance, love, and new obedience; lest, coming unworthily, they eat and drink judgment to themselves. The 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith Of the Church Chapter 26 PARAGRAPH 4 The Lord Jesus Christ is the Head of the church, in whom, by the appointment of the Father, all power for the calling, institution, order or government of the church, is invested in a supreme and sovereign manner;7 neither can the Pope of Rome in any sense be head thereof, but is that antichrist, that man of sin, and son of perdition, that exalts himself in the church against Christ, and all that is called God; whom the Lord shall destroy with the brightness of his coming.8 7 Col. 1:18; Matt. 28:18–20; Eph. 4:11–12 8 2 Thess. 2:2–9 Robert Murray M'Cheyne - God Makes A Path - Daily Devotional Readings Love beyond compare Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: for thy love is better than wine. Song of Solomon 1 v 2 There is no love in this world like a mother's love. It is free, unbought, unselfish love. However much pain she has suffered on her child's account, however many troubles she has to bear for it, by night and by day, while it hangs upon her breast, still it is more precious than gold. There is something in her heart that clings to her weak, sickly, nay, even to her retarded boy. God's love to a soul in Christ is stronger than this love. The Psalmist compares it to a father's: 'Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him.' And Malachi 3 v 17: 'I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.' Again, Isaiah 66 v 13: 'As one whom his other comforteth, so will I comfort you.'
