Daily Readings for Friday 16th August 2024

Daily Prayer - Friday
- Give thanks to God for many good things we enjoy and daily blessings.
- Pray the Lord would supply the needs of those in the congregation at Westminster and guide us as we help those destitute and suffering. Especially             those we have met in the pandemic. (Numbers 6.24-26.)
- Pray for the ministry among the children and that they would know Christ from a young age. A rich blessing in this troubled world.
​- Pray for the evangelistic work, that people would know the greatest blessing of all salvation by the grace of God through Christ.

Saturday morning at Victoria Street (outside the big Boots store) for 10:30am (across the road from Town Hall - No. 64). Afterwards we go back to church for prayer.

Preface - Jeremiah, having shewn the desolation which had befallen Judah, for idolatry, reproveth the Jews in Egypt for persisting therein, and prophesieth their destruction. Their inflexible obstinacy, Jeremiah threateneth them with severe judgments, and for a sign foretelleth the ruin of the king of Egypt.

The house that is to be builded for the LORD
must be exceeding magnifical.

Ye...as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house. - Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? A - Baptism is rightly administered by immersion, or dipping the whole body of the person in water, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, according to Christ's institution, and the practice of the apostles, and not by sprinkling or pouring of water, or dipping some part of the body, after the tradition of men.

Temporal judgements
For the time is come that judgement must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?
1 Peter 4 v 17

There are some sins which God visits with temporal judgements, as weakness of body, sickness, and death. When Ananias and Sapphira lied to the Holy Ghost, they fell down dead at the apostles' feet. When Herod gave not God the glory, he was eaten up of worms, and died upon his throne. So it is especially in profaning the Lord's table. This is God's word, who knows best: 'For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.'
