Daily Reading Preface - Jeremiah, having shewn the desolation which had befallen Judah, for idolatry, reproveth the Jews in Egypt for persisting therein, and prophesieth their destruction. Their inflexible obstinacy, Jeremiah threateneth them with severe judgments, and for a sign foretelleth the ruin of the king of Egypt. Jeremiah 44 Psalm 20) Preface - The church prayeth for the king's good success in the day of trouble, and expresseth a confidence in God's succour. Psalm 21) Preface - A thanksgiving for victory, with confidence of further success. Psalms 20-21 Daily Light - Morning The house that is to be builded for the LORD must be exceeding magnifical. Ye...as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house. - Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destory; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. - Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. - What agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. - Ye...are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; in whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: in whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit. 1 Chr. 22.5; 1 Pe. 2.5; 1 Co. 3.16-17; 1 Co. 6.19-20; 2 Co. 6.16 Eph. 2.19,20-22 Daily Light - Evening He is before all things. The Amen...the beginning of the creation of God. - The beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was... When he prepared the heavens, I was there; when he set a compass upon the face of the depth: when he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep: when he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment... I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him. - Yea, before the day was I am he. The Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. - The author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. Col. 1.17; Rev. 3.14; Col. 1.18 Pro. 8.22-23,27-29,30; Isa. 43.13 Rev. 13.8; He. 12.2 A Puritans Catechism Q 78 - How is baptism rightly administered? A - Baptism is rightly administered by immersion, or dipping the whole body of the person in water, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, according to Christ's institution, and the practice of the apostles, and not by sprinkling or pouring of water, or dipping some part of the body, after the tradition of men. The 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith Of the Church Chapter 26 PARAGRAPH 1 The catholic or universal church, which (with respect to the internal work of the Spirit and truth of grace) may be called invisible, consists of the whole number of the elect, that have been, are, or shall be gathered into one, under Christ, the head thereof; and is the spouse, the body, the fulness of him that fills all in all.1 1 Heb. 12:23; Col. 1:18; Eph. 1:10,22–23, 5:23,27,32 Robert Murray M'Cheyne - God Makes A Path - Daily Devotional Readings Temporal judgements For the time is come that judgement must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? 1 Peter 4 v 17 There are some sins which God visits with temporal judgements, as weakness of body, sickness, and death. When Ananias and Sapphira lied to the Holy Ghost, they fell down dead at the apostles' feet. When Herod gave not God the glory, he was eaten up of worms, and died upon his throne. So it is especially in profaning the Lord's table. This is God's word, who knows best: 'For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.'
