The princes send for Baruch to bring the roll, who readeth it before them: they are afraid, and counsel Baruch and Jeremiah to hide themselves: they tell the king of the roll, who having heard part of it casteth it into the fire. Jeremiah is commanded to write the same in another roll, and denounceth a heavy judgment against the king. Baruch writeth a new copy with additions. Jeremiah 45) Preface - Baruch being dismayed, Jeremiah instructeth and comforteth him. Jeremiah 36-45 Preface - David praiseth God for executing judgment on his enemies, and saving the godly: he inciteth others to praise him: and prayeth that he may have like cause to praise him for his aid in some present distress. Psalm 9 Daily Light - Morning The path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day. Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. - Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD. Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. - We all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. - When that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away... For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. - Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. Pro. 4.18; Phil. 3.12; Hos. 6.3 Mt. 13.43; 2 Co. 3.18; 1 Co. 13.10,12; 1 Jn. 3.2-3 Daily Light - Evening Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. - Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise. - What will ye that I shall do unto you? They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened. So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him. If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? - I will put my spirit within you... Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will yet for this be enquired of. This is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: and if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. A - Repentance unto life is a saving grace, whereby a sinner, out of a true sense of his sin, and apprehension of the mercy of God in Christ, does with grief and hatred of his sin, turn from it unto God, with full purpose to strive after new obedience. The 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith Of Lawful Oaths and Vows Chapter 23 PARAGRAPH 5 A vow, which is not to be made to any creature, but to God alone, is to be made and performed with all religious care and faithfulness;8 but popish monastical vows of perpetual single life,9 professed poverty,10 and regular obedience, are so far from being degrees of higher perfection, that they are superstitious and sinful snares, in which no Christian may entangle himself.11 8 Ps. 76:11; Gen. 28:20–22 9 1 Cor. 7:2,9 10 Eph. 4:28 11 Matt. 19:1 Robert Murray M'Cheyne - God Makes A Path - Daily Devotional Readings The pilgrim's staff Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things are ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. Hebrews 13 v 5 There is no time when you may be more inclined to think God has forsaken you, than when sin and Satan are raging. There is a difference from sin raging and sin reigning, though the soul may not see it. In such a time remember these words - 'I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.' In a time of temptation, the believer should remember this promise. Jacob rested on it; Solomon rested on it: yea, it is a staff which has been leaned on by many believers, and you may lean on it too.
